How long do you think the Birds can stay competitive, i.e. playoffs, with the current roster? Dawkins getting up in age, McNabb is a question mark due to health, offensive line getting older, Kearse is question mark due to health, Trott is 33.... What do u think? |

i'm not sure the window is closing. Granted, the team is getting older in certain areas but they are also getting younger in areas too. QB, WR, TE for example. At the one game I went to last year, the most glaring issue was LB and stopping the run.
Poor Matt McCoy was just getting run over on almost every play. Time will tell is Takeo Spikes is a good replacement or not.
The next question point is QB. Is Donovan 100% and how does he play? If he stinks, who takes over and leads this team? It's a shame that Garcia wasn't kept because he gave this team fire.
OL isn't a concern to me, nor is the defensive backfield. WR I'm not sure has been upgraded enough but perhaps will remain acceptable. RB should be good enough as long as folks get rest and the LB group has been upgraded a bit. Not sure about DL as of yet.
I think overall the team can make the playoffs but I don't feel that they are a lock to do so especially if Donovan doesn't come back 100%.
Just some thoughts. |

The window is not closing. The window only closes when teams mortgage the future and wreck their cap situation, combined with poor drafing. The questions this team faces are the health of McNabb and the defense. We will only go as far as he takes us. Hopefully, Reid continues his late-season committment to the run this season. It will help McNabb stay healthy (how can he stay healthy when he drops back to pass 50-60 times a game, no wonder he gets hurt every year.) This will also keep the againg defense off of the field. The defense will have to replace Dawkins, Trotter, and Kearse very soon, as early as next season. How they do that will determine how long the window stays open. |

Good points all around, I am worried about the window as far as being on the level with the Colts, Pats, Chargers, Bears, etc. Making the playoffs is a good goal, but we've been there, done that. I'm talking about being a serious, legitmate, Super Bowl contender. Some of the things mentioned are huge holes: uncertainty at QB, stopping the run, and being able to run the football (or willingness to run the football) These are probably the top 3 things franchises that compete for a Super Bowl have in place already. The only one of the teams mentioned above that have a question mark in one of those areas is Da Bears w/ Rex GROSS-man. All of them have a franchise QB, good running game that can win games, and good to great defenses that WILL stop the run in crunch time. I think they need to determine this year if they are going to ride McNabb for a few more years OR start building a team for the next era (Kolb?) We are young at good positions like WR & OL, the LBs need an overhaul and the DL needs some players to stay healthy and play up to their potential (that means you Bunkley & Howard & Kearse) |

Super Bowl contender? In my opinion, this team is quite a few pieces away from being a playoff contender. Maybe they'll make the playoffs but the Super Bowl is out of reach for this team. Frankly, I think we should focus on the development of that Kolb kid, if he's any good, then he's the future and we need to get him up to speed as quick as possible.
Anyways, Ryan Howard just jacked on over the center field wall as I was writing this, so I'm not looking to the Eagles just yet. Maybe the Phillies will make the playoffs. |

Any thoughts on this year's team by anyone? I certainly think they've made improvements with Samuels on defense but I'm not convinced that the offense is capable of winning a championship.
I think we still need WR's though... |
