I'm glad to hear that Holmgren blasted the team's recent lack of effort that came to an ugly head on Wed night versus a lowly Toronto team that is playing for nothing. It is one thing to lose a game where you competed hard. But the total lack of passion evident in that game is a very bad sign coming into the playoff stretch.
This team is now almost totally healthy after the early season struggle of Briere and other injuries. Now, there is no excuse. NJ is tanking and the #4 spot in the Eastern conference is up for grabs. I understand the parity among teams makes finishing the season at the top in points less relevant than finishing playing at a high level - but the Flyers right now are doing neither. They are a solidly mediocre team that seems to be putting the minimum effort in each night. I've grown used to their slow-starting ways all season, but they now seem to be waiting 55 minutes into games before they start to give a bleep.
That doesn't cut it in Philly, guys. Not only do we hate lack-of-effort more than losing, we also know when a team is ready to make a deep playoff run. Right now, I don't see that. Richie, Carts, Gags, Danny, Knubs, Lups -- time to punch the clock, collect some scars, and get this team playing the way we know they can -- starting tonight. |

Can't say I could disagree with your sentiment. This team is, on paper, a very good team. It's just a matter of putting it all together. I really would like to know where Mike Richards' head is right now. Why does Homer have to come out and crack some skulls? Isn't that the job of the Captain? Perhaps Mike wasn't exactly the right choice for the "C"?
I hope they pick it up because the they'll fade in this city once the Phillies start up unless they get it together. |
