Well, I watched the game last night in its entirety.  Due to my young son, I move around between the Phillies and whatever is usually on Discovery as he isn’t quite the sports fan that I am but last night's game was great for those of us who are baseball fans as well as a learning opportunity for my son.  He know sees what dear old Dad enjoys about baseball.

It contained a solid story line of a pitcher in need of a good start and another pitcher who has had plenty of good starts this season.  Each battled back and forth providing a pitching duel unseen so far this season.  Considering the importance of the game: Phillies in first place and the Mets always a thorn in their side, this game was of utmost importance to the psyche of the team.

As with most pitching duels, it came down to a single play.  Unfortunately Pedro Feliz didn't stick that ball in his back pocket, as Harry would say, but did his best to end the inning.  Follow that up by Werth triple-pumping the ball before nearly clipping the limping Delgado at the plate.  That was the game folks, one play, one mistake followed by indecision.

Let’s hope the Phillies learn from this game.

As for Park, I think he has earned another start.  His pitching last night was the kind of pitching we saw in spring training and expected from him at the start of the season.  I just wished he hadn't back himself into a corner before showing us what he can really do.

This is a minor bump in the road for the Phillies.  I don't think the Mets are going to make major strides this season unless their middle-bullpen becomes better but any Phillies lead going into the ninth keeps K-Rod out of the game.  He's lights out and is the difference if the Mets have the lead.

Can I get a "Lets go Phillies!"?

Re: Phillies have what it takes, just not last night

Why does this five-month-old post keep reappearing on Philly.com? This blog should be deleted by the Philly.com police.
