So Thanksgiving has come and gone. I had my fair share of turkey and hapless football thanks to the pitiful Lions/Titans and Dallas/Seattle games. I was expecting another dud as I headed down to the Linc late yesterday afternoon. What else was I to expect? Wasn't like the Eagles were lighting it on fire the past few games and all of us who bleed green know all too well. So after getting fleeced for parking and having a few brews in the parking lot, I took what was left of my Eagles fan dignity and went in to see if my team could shut down the high flying Cardinals lead by Warner, Boldin and Fitzgerald. I wasn't feeling confident to say the least. But what I saw was what all Eagles fans expected from our team!
That's right, some damn smashmouth football. Did Andy finally get a clue and use this team's weapons to their fullest extent? Sure looked like it last night. Hey, were those running plays that dominated the first half? Interesting how the results where soooooo much different than the previous two games. Westbrook finally broke out of his "slump" as I call it and had a career game. Donovan looked more comfortable since he didn't have to play the game lying on his back as the rushing game opened up the passing game. Gee, what a novel idea, the running game opening up the passing game. Wish I had thought of that.
Didn't I see that bum L.J. Smith catch a ball? Hardly knew that guy existed anymore but at least he showed he actually can catch a ball. Oh and what about that receiving corps? Gave Donovan solid targets and actually caught the ball, so I think I'll get off their backs at least for this week. Maybe this is a wake up call for the entire organization but I reserve my season-ticket holder's judgement for later as I know this team can easily fall back into the "old" ways quickly.
As for the rest of the Thanksgiving games, well, I gave thanks that my turkey coma came on fast as both games were beyond boring. I think the NFL could serve its fans better with getting rid of the Lions in the Thanksgiving day game (or until at least they can prove to put a winning team together) and give the 'boys a little better competition. Make the games meaningful and a reason to stay awake. Until then, I'm gonna take a nap since my turkey leftover coma is setting in.
