So it has taken me a few days to recover from the collosal embarrassment called the Eagles-Bengals game.  I think I may have finally watched the last game for the 2008 season.  This team is an outright embarrassment to watch and as a season-ticket holder, I duly request a refund.  To go up against a 1-8 team that can hardly move the ball and end in a tie is such a disgrace that heads need to roll in this organization.  Let me start where I think it should start:

  • Andy Reid - This guy may be a good coach, although recently I think he's slipping, but his play calling blows ass.  Plan and simple, it sucks!  This guy can't manage the ever changing aspects of a game, his use of time-outs is appalling at times and lets face it, he's not the coach to lead this team to a championship.  Oh, did I mention his drafting of players has been sub-standard as well?  Andy, thanks for your time but I think your time should now be yours.  Good-bye!
  • Donovan McNabb - Yes, our resident scapegoat is finally showing the wear and tear of his career.  There were days in the past where him rolling out of the pocket caused defenses to change their approach and made for a dangerous offense.  Now, standing in the pocket trying to run the West-Coast offense without the right components (we'll get to those later) has taken their toll.  Donovan, never an accurate passer, is more suited for a team with a solid running game.  Considering this team lacks that running game due to many reasons this season (Westbrook hurt, no fullback and shitty play calling), Donovan needs a change of scenery.  I say bring on Kevin Kolb and let Donovan go off into the sunset.  Hey, anyone notice the great job Jeff Garcia has done this year.  Know why?  Because at almost 40 years old, he runs the ball when needed.  Something Donovan could learn from but not in this town.
  • LJ Smith - Hands down, the worst TE in the league.  This guy drops more passes than a grandmother with two broken arms.  I apologize, that wasn't nice to say about Grandma.  LJ can't block either.  I don't know how many times Westbrook was running around the end, only to find out that LJ barely held up the defensive end and a tackle was looming.  Face it, without weapons to throw to at the TE position, this offense is down one more weapon.  For those who may say this position isn't important, go back to the team that first ran the West Coast offense, the San Francisco 49ers, they had Dwight Clark, John Frank and Brent Jones to name a few.  These players could catch the ball and gave the QB a quick option in the 3-5 step drops that are throughout the offense.
  • LB Corp - I don't blame the guys personally because they are doing their best but this team was dominant when they had a large run stopping LB corp.  Jeriamiah Trotter anyone?  The Eagles need to start looking to draft some big-run stopping LB's instead of wasting their picks on fat-slow defensive linemen.

Until these areas are addressed, in my opinion, I don't see this team getting to the playoffs anytime soon.  I hope I'm wrong but then I've been waiting my entire life for an Eagles Championship.  At least the Phillies have given me a little lift because the Eagles are letting me down.
