I'm Pauly Sore and this is what I'm sore about!

What a week!  We see Cliff Lee come in and make the Phillies a serious contender to repeat as World Series Champions.  His 3-0 WL record and an astounding 1.13 ERA make the trade look like a steal.  Couple that with a paltry 6 walks in 24 innings pitched, Cliff has established himself as the stopper on the staff.  Now if Cole can become even more consistent, the 1-2 punch at the top of the rotation will be

So tomorrow night is the debut of Pedro Martinez.  It has been quite a long time since I've been this excited about a 37 year old pitcher.  But having seen the likes of the pitching staff these past few days, bring it on!  Jamie Moyer seems to have either lost his ability to pitch or the hitters are just tuned into him now that his turtle-speed pitches appear way too juicy.  The time has come to

Well, I watched the game last night in its entirety.  Due to my young son, I move around between the Phillies and whatever is usually on Discovery as he isn’t quite the sports fan that I am but last night's game was great for those of us who are baseball fans as well as a learning opportunity for my son.  He know sees what dear old Dad enjoys about baseball.

The Phillies went into spring training with a concern at 2nd base in Chase Utley's hip.  Well, he's coming along well and likely to be in the opening day lineup.  All was quiet until the staff ace, Cole Hamels, hit a little bump in the road with a sore elbow.  Luckily, after today's MRI, Cole has an inflammation in his elbow.  This is good news considering the alternatives but I think this allows the Phillies to take their time deciding who will take the 5th starter position.

So far this spring both Chan Ho Park and J.A. Happ have provided a stunning competition for the last spot in the rotation.  This gives the Phillies some comfort in that if they need to sit Cole for a few games, they have two solid pitchers to handle his spot.

Hey, the Flyers are hanging in there.  Trouble part is they just don't seem very consistent with their play and when it comes to really solid teams, they just aren't showing up.&am ... Read More »

Just a quick note folks:

So I'm reading ESPN.com the other day and I see that my beloved Eagles have decided to fire a 6 year veteran of the stadium operations.  The reason?  He vented his thoughts about the Eagles letting Brian Dawkins go on his Facebook page.  Are you kidding me?  So the man decided to let his feelings known.  Big deal.  Looks to me like the Eagles have no tolerance for opposing opinion.  Perhaps it's the "yes man" environment that exists within the Eagles organization that continues to bring us so many championships.  At best, this person should've been suspended but not fired.  In a league where drug abuse, spousal abuse, firearms violations and cheating is hardly given more than a slap on the hand, this just shows what a joke the Eagles and to an extent, the NFL has become.  Anyone want my season tickets?  I don't see this season being much fun. So the Phillies are in full swing this spring training.  The offense is scoring again in bunches and the pitchers are putting in solid innings.  It's the open issues that remain unresolved that have me wondering if this team can repeart, or at least, get back to the playoffs this year.  The things that concern me are:

It is great to be back!  I had a little hiatus to care for the newest member of my family but am ready to get back to posting my thoughts on the Philly sports scene.  So what have I missed?  For starters, the defensive leader of our beloved Eagles has taken off to the mile high city.  Though I took the time to listen to sports radio over the past day or so, I'm not real concerned long term for this team.  Though Dawkins was a great leader and feared by opponents, he has slowed some in recent years and at his age wouldn't be long before long post passes were turned in for touch downs.  This situation is reminicent of the Jeramiah Trotter situation where Trot left a void and the team was tasked to carry on without him.

This Friday, Pauly shook off his post-turkey food coma long enough to take his ten year old nephew to the Flyers game versus Carolina.  Arriving early, we staked out a spot right next to the Flyers tunnel so my nephew could get a good luck at his hero, Simon Gagne, and the rest of the retro-orange-jersey clad team at the pre-game skate.   We were able to get a nice close-up view of a team obviously on a five game winning streak.  They were loose, energetic, and the smiles on their faces were almost as big as my nephew’s af ... So Thanksgiving has come and gone.  I had my fair share of turkey and hapless football thanks to the pitiful Lions/Titans and Dallas/Seattle games.  I was expecting another dud as I headed down to the Linc late yesterday afternoon.  What else was I to expect?  Wasn't like the Eagles were lighting it on fire the past few games and all of us who bleed green know all too well.  So after getting fleeced for parking and having a few brews in the parking lot, I took what was left of my Eagles fan dignity and went in to see if my team could shut down the high flying Cardinals lead by

Where to begin?  The Eagles have another game down and down big.  Mistakes galore, poor decisions everywhere yet down only 10-7 when Andy Reid decides to pull Donovan.  Now granted, Donovan stunk up the place but the game was so close, why pull the one guy on the team that can run this disfunctional offense?  Did Andy really think Kevin Kolb, who did his best under an adverse situation, would do better?  I think it has come high-time for Andy to resign
