Last night’s victory over Atlanta brought the Flyers to within 5 points of 1st place New Jersey in the Atlantic division. The Flyers recent streakiness combined with the total bunching of most teams in the East has their respective playoff position changing daily. The presence of the shootout really hurts the Flyers in the standings, since they just aren’t very g ...

Names of 80+ players were named in yesterday’s Mitchell report on steroid use, including Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, Gary Sheffield, and Miguel Tejada. With a lack of cooperation from the players and no subpoena power, Mitchell’s hands were tied. The fact that he still found 80 names has to be disturbing.

When the 76ers Fired GM Billy King and replaced him with Nets’ GM Ed Stefanski on Tuesday, most of us were caught off guard. After trading Allen Iverson to Denver a year ago, the plan was to go young and clear salary cap space for after this season. This season was expected to be a tough one, where a mostly young roster was going to have to take its lumps. King was allowed to make the Iverson deal, execute the buyout of Chris Webber, and make the 3 1st round draft picks last June, so conventional wisdom was that King would/should be around to finish the ...

Andy Reid obviously was one of the many who overrated A.J. Feeley’s performance against New England. I say this because he called 46 passing plays to only 28 runs. With his backup QB. On a miserable rainy day. Meanwhile, in a 4-point loss to Seattle yesterday, Brian Westbrook had only 7 carries in the Eagles’ final 8 possessions, while A.J. “not the messiah after all” Feeley threw 4 picks.

A.J. Feeley’s success (if you can call 2 killer picks success) against the Patriots Sunday night has served only to further cloud the Eagles’ QB situation. It was hard to ignore how smoothly the offense ran with Feeley; it looked like it did with Jeff Garcia last season. Who plays the rest of the season really should rest on how the coaching staff forms the game plan going forward. If timing routes and dink-and-dunk is the way they want to play, then Feeley should be the guy. He is simply a much more accurate passer.Read More »

The most annoying part of media coverage and fan reaction of the Eagles this year is the weekly microscopic analysis of the play of QB Donovan McNabb, especially given the fact that he is returning from a major knee injury. When he has a bad week, he’s written off as finished, and sentiment is that he should be benched. When he has a good week, he’s back to the old Donovan. Neither is correct, and we won’t know for sure which side is right until next season, after a full season of rehab.Read More »

The Eagles 38-17 loss to Dallas last night was depressing in that it brings the reality that this team just isn’t good enough, and for the first time in a decade, the Cowboys are the better team. It hurts just to write it.
In every prior game this season, win or loss, plays that used to be m ...

McNabb no longer able to cover for coach.
The Eagles last-second loss on Sunday drops them perilously close to playoff elimination. Most of the blame appears to lie on the shoulders of QB Donovan McNabb, and he deserves his share ...

The Eagles are running out of time to save their season. Heading into the bye week at 1-3 and looking up at all 3 division opponents, a loss this week would end the season before it starts. The NFC is bad, but it isn’t that bad. Heck, the division may already be out of reach; if the Cowboys can win that horrible game Monday night, then they are going to be tough to catch.

When I turned on Monday’s Wild Card Playoff between the Padres and Rockies, I thought I wanted the Padres to win and play the Phillies due to their injuries and impotent lineup. Then after the Padres' bullpen looked so good, I wanted the Rockies. By the time it was over, I went back to my original thoughts on Sunday after the Phillies clinched; it would be tough either way. Colorado come to town for a match up the baseball’s 2 hottest teams, and two of the most unlikely playoff entrants ever.
